It will be played through my Jet City, my Peavey Penta, my Fender Super Sonic, through Amplitube 3, and a couple other amps. I bought the 305 because I found the 305 I already have to be excellent at getting David Gilmour type Strat tones, with amazing, singing sustain. They're as mismatched as two pieces of gear can be. The 305 joins my other 305 which I got in 2011 and have been enjoying since then.īTW if anyone's wondering, no, my intention is not to play the 305 through the XXX. 18 months to pay, otherwise I could not have considered it. But I walked out with the Peavey XXX combo, an MXR Micro Chorus and Prime Distortion, and a 2009 PRS 305. I had no intention of buying a guitar on Sunday. 305's sell on the used market for a couple $100 more than what I got this new one for. Sunday night it was marked down by $1,000, I kid you not. Every time I went over there, I'd see it still there. There is a new sunburst 309 with rosewood board that has been hanging there since 2009 that called my name when I first saw it 4 years ago. I saw these tags on all the PRS guitars, covering an entire wall, with prices marked down by hundreds of dollars.

They said they could knock $50 off the used Peavey amps, whichever one I decided on.Īnd then I walked into the Platinum room. So I got there, and prices on these items were the same as last time I'd been there, no special deal.

I was also considering a Peavey JSX head they had there, marked at $499(!).Īnd I was also considering the MXR "buy two, get a free Badass Overdrive" offer they're running. I wanted to see if they'd offer a special deal for that event. My local GC had a Peavey XXX combo that I'd previously plugged in to and had my eye on. I went to Guitar Center's pre-Black Friday invitation only event on Sunday night.

and perversely, when I had to sell it - it was replaced by a lil' American Stratocaster. it had all the tonalities and playability that the the Strats had. I gave up a coupla STratocasters along the way after I bought my first good PRS - a goldtop SC245. Really, I know I haven't answered your original questions. you're gonna find some fun tones and interesting possibilities, but you may also find yourself changing what you need in terms of your Z Amps to accomodate any additions. Taking a wild-guess here, but I think both the 305 and 408 would be a good bridge between the "traditional" Fender guitars and the "traditional" PRS designs. 2012 was a tough year on my collection, so I am being careful on who/what/where I am tryin' out as the funds aint comin' back together as fast as I would like. Īs of late, I have had the opportunity to stretch-the-strings with Starla, Mira, SC250, 513 and a coupla others. If you are really into the Strat/Tele type tones, PRS seems to have a funny way of getting those sounds and sensations out of wood and pickup combinations that don't look like they would agree. Iirc, the 408 has the special wound pickups - neck pickup looks a touch more narrow than the bridge, yes? and the 305 is a PRS interpretation of a Fend'r kinda guitar, yes? not necessarily the two models in question and, I have had the good fortune and opportunity to play various Dr Z Amps using various PRS guitars. I have 'some' experience with PRS guitars.
